Mail Server Outage
NCIA's mail server needed to be rebooted this morning. During this time user were unable to pop their mail from the server. Outage was only a few minutes in duration. During this outage all incoming mail for users was spooled onto backup servers preventing any mail loss. Once the mail server returned to operation, the backed-up spooled mail was transfered to the pop server, ready for user download.
NCIA will be installing an all new, very robust, high capacity, high speed mail server by the end of the month. The new mail server will provide a more reliable, higher capacity mail service for NCIA users.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

13Dec2001 Postini Planned System Maintenance --noc
To all NCIA Email Users,
On Saturday, December 15th, from 1pm to 3pm Eastern time, Postini services will not be available. Email will not be flowing through our servers and the message center will not be available. We are upgrading our database and email servers. We are also adding network capacity. During this outage, email will either flow around the Postini servers to our email server without filtering or will be deferred and held for later delivery by sending email servers. We have chosen this time to minimize the impact to our customers while ensuring that the right resources are in place to perform the upgrade. Additionally, on Sunday morning (sometime between midnight and 8am) there will be a short (15-30 minute) outage when our co-location provider is updating their switches and network. Email during this period will behave in the same way as the Saturday outage.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you or your customers.

12Oct2001 Important NCIA Account Information -noc
New Multiple Login Policy for dial-up accounts effective November 1, 2001
This policy allows for more than one connection at a time using the same username and account. Users connected simultaneously (using the same username) will be billed $1.00 per concurrent connection plus $1.00 per hour for concurrent usage. Multiple login-in charges will be calculated on a monthly basis and billed accordingly. The old policy limited each dial-in account to only ONE concurrent connection at a time. This new policy allows for users to have concurrent sessions.
Just a reminder that NCIA has a 250 hour Monthly Policy that went into effect on September 1st. A small number of customers were affected. You can check your time on-line anytime at www.ncia.net.
For upcoming and current information at NCIA read the NCIA Browser Newsletter published monthly. If you have misplaced your newsletter all editions are available on-line at www.ncia.net/newsletter/

Unlimited Internet Access Policy Change
Please be advised that NCIA is changing Internet dial-up access rates and policies effective September 1, 2001. Due to increased telecommunication costs and increased demand for Internet access NCIA is forced to change its user policies for dial-up Internet access. NCIA has been able to maintain constant rates for the past three years however, due to large demand and lack of northern New Hampshire telecommunication infrastructure, dial-up access will no longer be unlimited. NCIA is forced to implement these changes in order to provide the quality service our customers expect. These changes will help elevate the problem with the ongoing public switched telephone congestion problem experienced in northern New Hampshire due to the high Internet demand over the last few years. NCIA has been working with Verizon and the Public Utilities Commission over the last two and a half years to resolve congestion on the public switched telephone network. This policy change is one of the many solutions NCIA has implemented in reducing the congestion to the public switched telephone network. Refer to the State of New Hampshire Public Utilities Commission docket DT 99-020 www.puc.state.nh.us/tcwebpg.htm#99-020 for further information.
Monthly costs will remain at $20 per month for on-line usage up to 250 hours per month. On-line access hours in excess of the monthly maximum of 250 hours will be billed at a rate of $1.00 for each additional hour used. NCIA users will not be metered for time on-line during the monthly billing cycle for on-line time under 250 hours. This is equivalent to over 8 hours of Internet access per day! Most users will not be effected by this policy change.
If you or your business are heavy users and require dedicated access, 24 hours/7 days per week, dedicated access is available for $150.00 per month. No additional charges are billed for dedicated services. Dedicated services must be contracted in advance.
Unlimited Dial-up Access has been restricted to 250 hours per month for the same $20.00 per month fee. Internet resources are still unlimited!
This policy defines monthly usage limits comparable with other Internet providers. Other Internet service provides that don't specify maximum monthly usage, usually restrict users dedicated usage in their Terms and Condition Statements or Acceptable Use Policy. NCIA believes this policy change is fair and in the best interest of all New Hampshire public switched telephone network users.
Multiple Connection Policy Change
Each NCIA dial-up account is restricted to ONE modem connection at a time. NCIA is implementing a new policy effect September 1, 2001 for users needing to connect more than once at the same time ie., using two computers connected to NCIA at the same time with the same user account. Users connecting multiple times with the same user account will be billed an additional $1.00 for every concurrent connection setup and an additional $1.00 for each concurrent hour connected.
We hope you understand that NCIA is implementing these changes to continue providing the best possible Internet service without raising your monthly access fees while maintaining less congestion on the public switched telephone network.
15Jun2001 North Conway Access Number ChangeEffective July 1, 2001, the North Conway NCIA access number 356-3958 will no longer be in service. Users must change their Internet access dialer phone number to 356-0811 to access NCIA. If you have any questions about how to do this, email support@ncia.net, visit our support website at http://support.ncia.net or call 752-1250.
22Jun2000 N.Conway,Laconia Power Outage -nocLaconia is currently experiencing a power outage. Modem pools at the North Conway 356.0811 and the Laconia 527.5300 numbers will be out of service until power is restored. Conway and North Conway area residents can still dial the 356.3958 number.
In addition to dialup service, this outage will also prevent people from using mailhost5.ncia.net as their outgoing (SMTP) mail server. Customers affected by this can _temporarily_ use mailhost3.ncia.net as their outgoing mail server.
07May2000 all users virus update -nocThe battle against the Lovebug virus here at NCIA continues to be successful. The majority of our users have been completely unaffected by the spread of the virus as our mail systems have blocked approximately 1400 infected messages from reaching our users.
Still, we encourage our users to learn all they can about the Lovebug virus and it's 11 variants. If, at some point, an infected message should slip past our mail filters, you can kill it on your own machine by simply deleting the message without viewing the attachment.
Visit our own "Lovebug" information center at: http://support.ncia.net/warn/lovebug.html NCIA support staff are updating this site frequently to keep our users up to date. Check back occasionally for updates.
Symantec also keeps a _very_ good information site: http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/vbs.loveletter.a.html
Users who have anti-virus software are encouraged to update their "virus signatures" at their respective software maker's site.
As always, our support staff are ready to help you. Email support@ncia.net with questions or concerns.

NCIA technicians are on site, working with Bell Atlantic to have the problem circuits repaired. While this is happening users may experience busy signals when trying to connect to the Internet. This is happening because the affected pools are running at only 70% capacity.
