1. How does NCIA Accelerator work?

NCIA Accelerator is an exciting new technology that significantly speeds up your Internet experience.  By utilizing a variety of advanced information compression and performance enhancement techniques, NCIA Accelerator is able to optimize traffic flow across the existing Internet infrastructure.  This paradigm shift allows NCIA Accelerator to deliver the information you are looking for at lightning speeds.  As an analogy, let's look at a water pipe.  If you wanted to deliver more water through a pipe, there are numerous approaches you might take.  First, you could install a bigger pipe but that's very expensive.  Another more cost-effective approach might be to install a larger pump or reduce the friction inside the pipe.  This analogy mirrors what NCIA Accelerator does for data communications.  Some of the advanced Information Management techniques used by NCIA Accelerator include:

  • Persistent Connections

  • TCP/IP Protocol Optimization

  • Data Type-Specific Compression Algorithms

  • Local Caching

  • Remote Caching

  • Optimized Global Data Centers

  • Failsafe Downloads

  • Ad Blocking

  • Site Blocking

  • Windows® Optimizations

  • And much more...

4. What types of connections does NCIA Accelerator support?

NCIA Accelerator is connection independent. This means that NCIA Accelerator can work with and accelerate any of the following connection types:

  • Analog dial-up through standard modem

  • ISDN digital dial-up or direct connection through an ISDN adapter

  • DSL connection

  • Cable modem

  • Satellite connection

  • Wireless connection

  • Network router

8. Will NCIA Accelerator interfere with my anti virus software?

Some issues can come about when using Anti-Virus software such as Norton or McAfee. It appears that whichever application is running first will have control over the port (110, 25, 20-21) for the duration of that session. Therefore, if the anti-virus is running first, and then NCIA Accelerator is started, NCIA Accelerator may not be able to properly intercept the data from the email or ftp ports for compression. So far, in the opposite case, when NCIA Accelerator is started first, everything appears to be working properly. Simply be sure that the anti-virus is disabled the first time that NCIA Accelerator runs and connects and then enable the anti-virus. They should work in concert with one another from then on. Or a solution for this would be to have the anti-virus software not load with Windows and be sure to load NCIA Accelerator before the anti-virus software.

9. I just formatted my computer, or, I just bought a new computer, how do I get my billed serial number and key code back on my computer?

The newest version of NCIA Accelerator has the ability for the user to enter their previously installed subscription or trial serial number and key code. The next few steps should be followed:

  1. Install NCIA Accelerator as you had before.
  2. When you have installed it, you will see a screen asking you to connect to the internet and press "OK" to activate. You should do this.
  3. When you press "OK" a web page will appear. You can simply close this browser.
  4. You can now press the "Activate Now" button on the user interface. This will open a small window, which will allow you to enter your serial number and key code. (You should have these numbers saved from when you first signed up or you can get them from Technical Support).
  5. Once you have entered your serial number and key code you can click Submit and the product will re-activate with you correct numbers.
If you enter the numbers incorrectly, NCIA Accelerator will let you know and ask you to re-enter the numbers. You can also get back to the online signup to get a new serial number and key code (This will not have your current order however).

10. I have a personal firewall, will this interfere with NCIA Accelerator?

Users may run into problems when running personal firewalls such as Norton or McAfee. In each of these cases, it is a simple process of allowing NCIA Accelerator access to the internet. Below you will find instructions for the most popular firewall software available, Norton Anti Virus Firewall.

  1. When NCIA Accelerator first starts, Norton will pop up a box asking if you would like the product to be able to access the internet. You should select "Permit always" from the drop down menu available.
  2. You should now put NCIA Accelerator into a disabled state (click on the disable button on the user interface if it is not already disabled)
  3. You can now bring up the firewall user interface. You should not select the firewall green circle (you will see this in the product) and then click on the configure button to the right.
  4. In the configuration, there is a Programs tab. You should click that tab. You will then see a list of programs. You should look for Artera.exe in that list and make sure that it says that this program is permitted. If it is not, set it as permitted. (This is where you can enter the program if you did not get a box asking you about access when you first started NCIA Accelerator).
  5. Once you have checked the program access, you can close the configuration window.
  6. You should now right click on the Norton Firewall system tray icon and select "Disable."
  7. You can now press the enable button on NCIA Accelerator. You should now be able to make the connection to the Network. (Be sure that you have an active internet connection at this time).
  8. Once the product has enabled itself and it up and running properly, you can now right click on the Norton system tray icon again and this time click "Enable." NCIA Accelerator should remain working properly. You should now not have any trouble in the future connecting NCIA Accelerator.

11. I'm getting the error, "Network Temporarily Unavailable" on NCIA Accelerator, why is this?

This usually means that port 8081 may be blocked by a firewall. To fix this, you must allow NCIA Accelerator to use the internet. Refer to question, "I have a personal firewall, will this interfere with NCIA Accelerator?"

12. Does NCIA Accelerator interfere with music downloading programs, such as Kazaa or Morpheus?

There should be no interference with any music downloading programs.

13. I have more than one computer, can each of my computers receive the accelerated dialup, or only one? Is there an extra charge per computer?

Each computer will have its own serial number and key code upon activation of the product. Nowhere in the product is there a spot to enter a serial number and key code upon installation, so you can't reuse and serial number and key code. You can currently only enter your email address once into the activation wizard and receive one trial. You must enter a different email address for each product that you want to trial or purchase. This prevents you from having multiple products on the same computer by accident and possibly causing problems with the functionality of their product.

14. I can't connect using NCIA Accelerator, but I can connect with just my regular dialup.

Your dialup settings may be incorrectly set, you may need to verify that your dialup settings are correctly entered. If the dialup works with NCIA Accelerator shut down, then the issue would appear to be with NCIA Accelerator and not the dialup. In that case, be sure that the proxy settings are set to go through NCIA Accelerator.

15. Why am I getting an error message that states "Host Not Found?"

Make sure NCIA Accelerator is started. Also, check to make sure that the proxy settings are set correctly to go through NCIA Accelerator. Another thing to check is if you are typing in the correct URL.

16. NCIA Accelerator seems to be disconnecting me from the internet, how can I stop this?

By default, NCIA Accelerator will terminate the connection if it detects no activity for a certain amount of time, usually a period of 10 minutes. This is a configurable option that is set in NCIA Accelerator's connection settings. You can increase or decrease the amount of time that the connection is idle for, or you can disable this option entirely.

18. Will NCIA Accelerator work with my Netscape 7.1 browser?

A bug has been discovered with Netscape 7.1 that shortens file names, which in turn causes an error. There is a workaround for this, you much manually enter the NCIA Accelerator proxy settings into your Netscape browser. You will only have to do this one time as NCIA Accelerator will remember the settings for your after you have hit the OK button.

19. Can you explain NCIA Accelerator's firewall?

NCIA Accelerator's Ultra Secure Firewall protects you through its "stealth mode" of operation. It masks the fact that your computer has a TCP/IP address and TCP/IP ports by not responding to the port scanner. Since the port scanner sees no response from its probe, it assumes that there is no computer available and moves on to another TCP/IP address leaving your TCP/IP address safe. To keep your computer easy to use, yet protected while on the Internet, NCIA Accelerator's firewall is set up in the following manner:
Outbound access - all of your TCP/IP ports are open for outbound access so that you can send requests out to the Internet and get the results back with no hindrance.
Inbound access - all of your TCP/IP ports are closed for unsolicited inbound access so that nothing is allowed into your computer, unless you specifically allow it.

Open the status console and look to the lower left. You will see that the "speed" option is selected. This means that there may be some degradation in image quality, but you will receive the images much faster than normal. However, if you switch it to "quality" you will be able to see the images much clearer. Although, it will take a bit longer to receive the full image.
