If you have call waiting on your phone line and somebody calls you while you're
using the Internet, most likely your modem will disconnect you from the Internet. This is
because of the call waiting tones that alert you to a waiting call. Those call waiting tones
temporarily interrupt the carrier tones the modems use to verify each other. Even though the
tones last for only a fraction of a second, that is enough to make a modem think that the other
modem has hung up, so the connection is terminated. If you have call waiting, you can temporarily
shut it off by adding *70 to the beginning of your phone number.
Tip: The next time you go to connect, go to "Dial Properties" on the
connect box, and choose the option for call waiting.
