Uploading to School Homepages at NCIA

  • To get your school page to NCIA you will need a FTP program to upload the files to the server.

Here's a few FTP programs to download:

       Win 95/98 users: ftpx1009.zip
       Mac Users:          fetch_3.0.3.hqx

*If you have download the above file and cannot open it you will need to download & install this UNZIP program Winzip

  • Here is the info needed to configure your ftp client:

Profile Name: (name it what you want example: SCHOOL HOMEPAGE)
        Host Name: schools.ncia.net
        Username: Your login name
        Password: assigned by NCIA

        Resulting URL: http://schools.ncia.net/schoolname

  • Other Information:

*Be sure to name your main page index.html

*Read the help files that come with the above programs to get a better understanding of how they work.

*NCIA does not give HTML training for websites. http://www.htmlgoodies.com has some great HTML tutorials

Here are the answers to some of the most common questions we've come across while dealing with uploads:

  • What address should I FTP my files to?
You should tell your FTP program to send your files to: schools.ncia.net

  • Do I have a username and password for FTP yet?
If you have not yet contacted us to set up your website, You can email webmaster@ncia.net or call 603.752.1250 when you need to have your account prepared to serve your school homepage.

  • What is this "Profile Name" that my FTP program is asking me for?
The Profile Name is just a way that your FTP program helps you organize entries for the different places that you may be sending files to. This has no impact on whether you can log into our server but if you give it a logical name that makes sense to you, the next time you're ready to upload you can select that entry and your settings will already be there.
